Culture, education or science – in these areas see cooperation possibilities spouse of the slovak President Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová and Texas State Governor’s spouse Mrs. Anita Perry, who on 15 October 2009 came to the first-ever visit to Slovakia.

During the joint meeting, the two ladies exchanged their experiences in areas that they deal with such as improve health care for children and women, or prevention of obesity especially among children, which is becoming a global problem. Mrs. Gašparovičová familiarized Mrs. Perry also with the project Healthy Lifestyle: "I try to get school children to eat more fruits and vegetables. Last year and also this year I donored thousands of kilograms of apples to schools." Mrs. Perry, by contrast, seeks to help the people of Texas to become more active and she and her husband support the state competition in fitness each year. Mrs. Gašparovičová also presented progress in the slovak research of colon, skin and breast cancer.

Before midday Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová and Mrs. Anita Perry visited the United Elementary School for hearing impaired children at Hrdličkova street in Bratislava. Headmistress Mrs. Benová warmly welcomed both ladies. "It is our extreme honor that I welcome this rare visit to our school. We thank Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová for the gift she gave to our pupils – it is a training program Fono 2." Teaching through this program could ladies see in practice. Mrs. Anita Perry during the visit to the school appreciated the work of teachers with children. "Teachers deserve enormous recognition for what they do. It’s amazing to see such a playful way, how they can lead a lesson. We could see that we all can talk, also those who have a disability."

At the end of the joint meeting Mrs. Perry warmly thanked for the hospitality and she firmly believes that she will return to Slovakia.
