On Tuesday, 23 May 2005, Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová attended a ceremonial seminary held in Bojnice on the occasion of the International Day of Nursing. The main theme of the seminary was “A Sufficient Number of Competent Staff Protects Lives”.
It was already the second time that the First Lady took auspices over this event organized by the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives and the Regional Chamber of Nurses and Midwives from Prievidza. In her address, she highlighted and acknowledged the work of nurses which requires not only a lot of specialized knowledge but also a great deal of empathy and humanity.
“When one wants to be a truly good nurse, one has to keep in mind that it is a work with people and for people, to help them, to understand their physical and often also their psychical suffering. Therefore, this job is very demanding and requires good training and whole-life education so that you could follow latest knowledge in your field to be well prepared for challenging situations that are very common in your everyday work,“ said Silvia Gašparovičová to the present nurses from the whole Slovakia. Finally, she thanked them, on behalf of all patients, for their self-sacrifice and care. Then together with President of the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives Mrs. Magdaléna Hodačová, she presented almost 40 nurses the White Heart Award.
