President Gasparovic: Bush - Putin Summit is the show of confidence towards Slovakia

Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic considers the decision to hold the top meeting of the presidents of USA and Russia George W. Bush and Vladimir Putin in Bratislava an appreciation of Slovakia as a trustworthy country. Slovakia wishes to prove that it is a reliable ally within the Euro-Atlantic integration groupings and the demonstration thereof shall also be the Bratislava summit of the Presidents. President Gasparovic is convinced that it is going to be an exceptional event, one which will undoubtedly make Slovakia more visible in the international arena. The fact that the Presidents of the two world’s superpowers have selected Bratislava for their meeting shall be according to the Slovak head of State a signal that the Slovak Republic is the rightful candidate for the post of a non-permanent UN Security Council member for the period 2006 – 2007.
