Day of good mood, fun, humor, but above all to pay tribute to people who are blood donors. That is the aim of this year’s celebration of the World Blood Donors Day, which were on 12 June 2011 prepared by the National Transfusion Service of the Slovak Republic (NTS SR) in cooperation with the Slovak Red Cross. At one of Bratislava’s shopping centers it was solemnly opened by the First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová, Minister of Health Ivan Uhliarik, Director of the National Transfusion Service of the Slovak Republic Renáta Dundová and the Secretary General of the Slovak Red Cross Silvia Kostelná.
As stated by the NTS SR Director Mrs. Renáta Dundová, "14th June was declared by the World Health Organization as the World Blood Donors Day. On that day we worship all people who donated their most precious fluid, saved lives and who do not wish to receive any remuneration. It is not obvious that we have blood. We have it just because among us we have those exceptional people who donate blood.“
First Lady of Slovakia welcomes that the National Transfusion Service of Slovakia develops activities that appeal also young blood donors. "We met on this day to thank all blood donors. Nobody knows when we will need blood. I believe that more people and also new donors will come. We all know that the donation is very needed," said Silvia Gašparovičová.
Also this year the Slovak Foundation of Silvia Gašparovičová – Education and Health for Everybody helped the National Transfusion Service of the Slovak Republic. The foundation gave 4 laptops to the NTS SR that they can be used at mobile blood collections.
On the occasion of the World Blood Donors Day on 14 June 2011 at the premises of the Office of the President of Slovakia at the Štefánik Street in Bratislava a mobile sampling unit will be prepared from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. This year’s World Blood Donors Day, which will be hold on 14 June 2011, highlights the need for safe blood and blood products, where an important role in blood donation has the principle of voluntary and free of charge donation. The World Blood Donors Day hlights the urgent need that people around the world should become the "saviors of human lives" – they should become regular voluntary blood donors. |
