On 15 October 2012 First Lady Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová together with U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia opened the Women Entrepreneurship Forum in Bratislava. Through space for discussion on a wide range of topics related to the position of women entrepreneurs and in leadership positions in the business this Forum wants to help the further development of women’s entrepreneurship in Slovakia.
Given that only about 28% of women in Slovakia runs a business, through such initiatives the society wants to increase the number and raise awareness about women entrepreneurs in Slovakia. "In my position as the First Lady, as well as in my foundation we strive to be active in issues of improving the conditions of women’s work and life, but also in the whole society in Slovakia. Especially women do not have it easy in the business – they must combine family responsibilities with work demands, that are significant especially in the early days of business. Mostly they don´t have enough support in their family and in society," said Silvia Gašparovičová.
The European Commission sees the female entrepreneurial potential as the undiscovered source of new growth and more jobs. Slovakia has a chance to learn from experiences and good advice of others. "For this reason I really welcome this entrepreneurs forum and I believe that the exchange of knowledge and experience in specialized panels of knowledgeable experts from the U.S. and Slovakia will certainly contribute to increase self-confidence, courage and determination of women to have a successful career and will bring contribution to society," said the First Lady. |
