Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič met his counterparts – the President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski and the President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus – in the Beskid Mountains town of Wisła, Poland near the Slovak and Czech border on 18-19 January 2013. In an informal atmosphere, the heads of state discussed the developments in the Central Europe and the European Union and exchanged information on the current political situation in their countries. They emphasised the benefits and usefulness of closer cooperation in the region. At the same time, the presidents pointed to a high intensity of political contacts as the driving force for the building of very good mutual relations between the countries of the region.
President Gašparovič highlighted the fact that the heads of state were able to consult the decisions concerning the internal development of the individual states in a way that their implications could be positive for all participating countries.”It is very positive – in particular in the European Union – that we can reach an agreement on many things which we otherwise might not be able to agree,” the President noted. Gašparovič conveyed to the President of Poland a supportive stance of the Government of the Slovak Republic concerning a joint bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Krakow/Tatras.
