Slovak scouts also this year on 13th December 2009 brought Bethlehem light into the Presidential Palace - the flame from the Church of Nativity in the Holy Land. President of Slovakia Ivan Gašparovič together with his wife Silvia Gašparovičová took a lantern with flashing light and thanked the scouts for this beautiful tradition that has build up an awareness in Slovakia.
At the same time Mr. President expressed his joy of the annual meeting with Slovak scouts and praised their Christmas message – carryig peace, love and understanding for everybody. "I’m glad that you, scouts, reminds us that there are among us those who need our help." Mrs. Gašparovičová wished to scouts that their efforts everywhere should meet with thanks and love.
The tradition of carrying of the Bethlehem flame as a symbol of peace, love, happiness and hope, was founded in neighboring Austria. In Slovakia, this practice extended to 1990 and this year for the twenty time scouts will distribute it into towns and villages, churches and hospitals, welfare homes and shelters throughout Slovakia. Slovak scouts took the light from the austrian scouts and handed it to a polish boy scout, that it will bring joy, hope and a feeling of togetherness among people. Up to one million people of goodwill carries the Bethlehem light into 25 countries.
Slovak scouts annually yield Bethlehem light to the highest inhabited place in Slovakia. The flame will for the 16th time light for the staff in the SAV Observatory and Tatranské lanové dráhy at Lomnický štít on 21st December when it will be brought by tatra´s scouts. |
