On 14th June every year we commemorate the World Blood Donors Day. On this occasion, employees of the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic, students, first-time or more years´ blood donors did not hesitate to come and donated the precious liquid – blood in the premises of the Office of the President, where there was from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. a mobile blood collection ready for them. This year’s donation was attended by 67 people.
Blood donors personally came to support the First Lady Silvia Gašparovičová, who is also the honorary president of the Slovak Red Cross. "I am delighted that the Office of the President joined the World Blood Donors Day. Blood donation is very important because we never know when we will need blood. The donation is very worthwhile for everyone. I am glad that the Slovak Red Cross and the National Blood Service of Slovakia is developing also such activities and appeals to donors to come to donate the precious liquid," said the First Lady of Slovakia.
For the 37th time donated blood the Chief of the Military Office of the President General Marian Áč. "I think that this attitude towards donation is very worthwhile. Regular blood donation is for me an act of kind-heartedness to others who need blood and can not obtain it otherwise. This is how we help one another. We soldiers need it most when a crisis situation comes," said Marian Áč. Among first-time blood donors was also the student Matej Krajčovič from Bratislava, who just today has reached 18 years. On this occasion, the head of the Office of the President Mr. Milan Čič received him and his mother, and gave him a birthday gift: a book and a set of pens of Mr. President.
President of the Slovak Red Cross Mrs. Helen Kobzová appreciated that the presidential couple expresses reverence for blood donors. Overwhelming support of blood donors expressed also the director of the National Transfusion Service of Slovakia Mrs. Renáta Dundová. "We need you to show how important blood donation is," said Mrs. Dundová.
This year’s motto on the World Blood Donors Day ´More blood. More Life´ pays attention to the urgent need of more and more blood donors worldwide. |
