The wife of the President of the Slovak Republic, Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová, met with 50 members of the Model European Parliament within the international school project “The Model European Parliament – the Slovak Republic 2005”. The project was made by the Model European Parliament Foundation as a Europroject in which each region of Holland has a partner from one of the new European Union member states. The purpose is to establish contacts between young people and to get to know these countries and get more information about them.
The idea of the project also lies in starting contacts of Slovak schools with their partner schools. Students can establish contacts through Internet. Later, by organizing some common events they can get to know everyday life, family life, schools, interests and entertainment in the partner country, but also discuss European issues. The project is focused on the students aged 15 – 17, i.e. young people that will soon get involved in the decision-making processes in their own countries. In her speech addressed to the participants of the national session of the Model European Parliament, the First Lady expressed her trust in abilities of our young people to successfully represent the Slovak Republic at the international session of the Model European Parliament which will be held in Madrid.
“You are our incoming generation which will soon take over the responsibility for the direction of Slovakia. Therefore, I appreciate very much that the Model European Parliament Foundation in the Hague enabled the young Slovaks to take part in this unique and remarkable event which will contribute to extending your life experience,” said the First Lady to the present members of the Model European Parliament.
