Slovak President Receives Croatian Foreign Minister
The President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič received Gordan Jandroković, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.
He expressed his belief that Croatia is well on the way to join the European Union as well as the North Atlantic Alliance. Gašparovič also praised the quality of Slovak-Croatian relations and cooperation at the multilateral level in the UN. Slovakia sees great opportunities for joint investments abroad.
Gordan Jandroković said he was very pleased that Slovakia was the destination of his first foreign trip, as this country continues to be of great help to Croatia in its Euro-Atlantic integration efforts. Croatia also appreciates Slovak experience with the integration process. In his opinion, Croats perceive Slovakia as an example of successful membership of the European Union. Jandroković acquainted the Slovak President with the political situation in his country, which has become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a two-year term and which focuses its foreign policy on solutions to peace and security in the world.
Gordan Jandroković also said Croatia would support other Balkan countries in their efforts to join the Euro-Atlantic structures, but noted that all conditions must be strictly complied with. Croatia will closely observe the developments in Kosovo, but will not rank among the first countries to recognise the possible independence of that province.
President Gašparovič presented Slovakia’s stance on this issue, noting that the Serbs and Albanians should seek a compromise, because there is no unilateral and fair solution.
