President Ivan Gašparovič with his spouse Silvia opened also this year on 26th June 2009 the doors of the Presidential palace to the public. The Day of open doors was celebrated because of the occasion of the president´s inauguration.
First visitors were welcomed by the presidential couple short after 9:00 a.m. at the Frontal Courtyard. After a short guard of honour parade followed a short signing of photographs in the Large Room of the palace.
President Ivan Gašparovič and his spouse organised this day for the 5th time. „I´m glad we do this nice activity each year. There is always a big interest of people who want to see the palace from inside,“ said Ivan Gašparovič. The presidential couple loves to talk with the smallest visitors. As Mr. president said - „their questions come from heart, they don´t speculate and aren´t waiting for any sensation.“
Visitors from Slovakia but also from all over the world came into the Presidential palace. They could see the representative rooms of the palace where president Ivan Gašparovič together with his spouse Silvia Gašparovičová welcomed many special guests – e.g. british royal couple or U.S. president. Visitors could also see the President´s and First Lady´s Study. „It´s great to see suprisedand curious children eyes,“ said the First Lady. People asked her about her work and activities. „When they are standing at my study room they are wondering about my PC at the table. Children and even adults notice for sure my honours I got during my time as the First Lady.“ At this occasion came also Mr. Viliam Pavlovský from Banská Bystrica, who donored to the First Lady a gift – a painting of her.
President Ivan Gašparovič together with the First Lady welcomed in the Garden Hall the best graduates of the military camp in Lešť – Camp 2009. Together with successful slovak sportsmen they signed photographes for all interested.
At the frontal and rear courtyard of the palace were several activities prepared – folklore ensemble, police vehicles, guard of honour and military music corps parades. Part of the programme was also a creative workshop for children, children´s playground and presentation of the Slovak Red Cross.
