President Ivan Gašparovič and his wife Silvia went on 5th-7th September 2011 to the three-day official visit to Malta. This is the first visit of the Slovak presidential couple in this island country ever.
In addition to a tête-à-tête meeting of the presidential couples had Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová and Mrs. Margaret Abela a separate ladies’ program – they discussed especially charitable activities of their foundations and inspected premises of the Presidential Palace in Malta.
On 7 September 2011 at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malta, the Slovak presidential couple opened a photo exhibition of Andrej Bán and Martin Bandžák about the Slovak foreign aid "Slovakia helps the World", where a meeting with the expatriate community and friends of Slovakia was held.
The First Lady had at that day the opportunity to become acquainted with the oldest history of Malta in the Archaeological Museum in Valletta, and together with her husband they visited some historical places of Malta. As she said, "Malta has truly beautiful historical monuments."
