On Saturday, 19 November 2005, Silvia Gašparovičová attended the 14th Benefícium Charity Grand Evening 2005 that took place in Reduta in Bratislava. It was already traditionally organized by the Slovak Humanitarian Council on the occasion of the International Day of Volunteers and the International Day of Disabled Persons. In Slovakia, it was a good chance to appreciate and recognize the work of a number of volunteers who spend their time, power, knowledge and energy in favour of disabled persons and people in critical life situations which they could not cope with by their own.
On behalf of the President of the Slovak Republic, the First Lady thanked the representatives of the Slovak Humanitarian Council as well as all the other humanitarian and charity workers for their long-year work which they often do at the expense of their own comfort or private life. „I am really grateful to you for your self-sacrifice and your contribution to mitigating suffering in both, our country and the whole world. Because of your noble and meaningful work, I have decided to support the activities of the Slovak Humanitarian Council by a financial gift of SKK 100,000“, said the President of the Slovak Republic to the humanitarian and charity workers in his greeting letter.
