It was not the first time that Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová took patronage over an action of the Slovak Society of Cardiology. She personally devoted individual efforts and attention to issues of health and preventing disease in all age categories of citizens. The project "Don´t be under pressure" on the occasion of the International Day of Hypertension she supported mainly because statistics on mortality, caused by high blood pressure, are alarming in Slovakia. Up to 50% of Slovak citizens don´t know their blood pressure and 80% don´t know their cholesterol. The measurement is simple, but people do not practice it. Refractory hypertension is easy, but there are almost half of people with untreated hypertension.
At the action paramedics measured blood pressure for free at three places in Bratislava and measurement results are actually consistent with the national average. Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová said at the press conference that the improvement in the situation is essential to reverse the problem of unhealthy habits of children in schools. "I personally will initiate, for example, school physical education won´t be classified. Only because of a mark half of pupils in the class are exempted from physical education. In the Foundation a project of right drinking regime for students was realized, we successfully launched the project ’Golf in Schools’, we want to ensure fruit and vegetables to selected schools as an experiment, or change machines at the coca-coke into machines with apples. Many vices are no longer children from infancy, and if we all opposed to doing something, alarming statistics about the health of our population have declined, but on the contrary," said Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová and highly commended the efforts of Slovak Society of Cardiology on effective education and awareness of population and such interesting forms such as the action "Do not be under pressure".
