The Guard of Honour of the President of the Slovak Republic in historical uniforms
Since time immemorial, Slovakia has been at the centre of events with regard to historical development, movement and changes within Central Europe. Little wonder then that it should wish to present itself as a sovereign country. One of the means for this is the historical uniform of the Guard of Honour of the President of the Slovak Republic.
The historical uniform was inspired by the uniform of the Slovak volunteers from 1848, specifically the uniform of Janko Francisci. The colour scheme is taken from the Slovak tricolour. The national elements are accentuated by the feathered hat and the decorative ornamentation created from braid, which is inspired by motifs drawn from Slovak folk costume. As the uniform represents not only the head of state but also his environment, its exclusivity is highlighted by rich gold ornamentation and brown fur trims on the winter caps and overcoats. Rank is indicted by the appropriate number of insignia on red epaulettes. Officers are equipped with courier bags with a badge depicting the national symbol.
