Every year the 8th May marks the World Day of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. On this occasion, the Slovak Red Cross granted honors and awards to 39 blood donors, voluntary nurses, Red Cross volunteers and long-term partners and fellows of the Slovak Red Cross. The event on 17 May 2012 in the Primatial Palace in Bratislava attended the First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová, who is also the honorary president of the Slovak Red Cross.
First Lady of Slovakia commended the work and activities of the SRC. "Many of the activities organized by the SRC are a great asset for our society. The most important activity is the organizing of free blood donation, which becomes more and more successful every year. Equally important is the lobbying and public education of the SRC – e. g. the current nationwide collection ´Together we will help´ proclaimed for the period of May," said Silvia Gašparovičová. From the hands of the spouse of the President took the Slovak Red Cross Medal "For Saving a Life" Mr. Peter Kvasnica, who rescued a drowning girl from the river Váh by taking the risk of his own live and health.
The highest honor granted by the Slovak Red Cross – the Silver Honorable Medal of Henry Dunant – was this year awarded to the President of the SRC Mrs. Helena Kobzová.
First Lady finally thanked all honoured for the work they performed selflessly for the good of our fellow citizens. |
