On the Hviezdoslavovo Square in Bratislava on 1. April 2011 began the fourth year of the information campaign "Let´s Open the Doors to the World of Autism." Awareness-raising activities to mark the World Autism Awareness Day are held under the auspice of the First Lady. "I am pleased that the Society for the Help of People with Autism comes every year with accompanying events which increase the general awareness of autism, as well as of people suffering from autism. I visited several autistic centers, where I saw the work with children; we even visited them with several First Ladies who have been enthusiastic of the excellent care of people with autism. I think that this day should note those who might decide on more assistance for these centers."
First Lady of Slovakia also highlighted the work of all the people who help others and contribute to their integration into society. The cultural and social afternoon was dedicated not only to spread awareness about autism, but also respect for people who share the consequences of this diagnosis in their family and working life. Through a simulation the public could test how these people perceive the world around. The event came to support the Mayor of Bratislava Milan Ftáčnik and the Mayor of the Bratislava´s Old Town Tatiana Rossová.
Bratislava´s selfgovernment will for the first time participate in the global campaign "Light It Up Blue". As the President of the Society for the Help of People with Autism Mrs. Mária Štubňová said, "the Primate’s Palace will be highlighted in blue; thanks to the National Council of Slovakia also the Bratislava´s Castle will be also highlighted in blue. This light is a sign of solidarity with people with autism and their families, in which they live."
The World Autism Day is every year commemorated on 2nd April. In connection with efforts to draw the attention of world public on the issue of autism it was declared in 2007 by the UN General Assembly. |
