Spouse of the President Silvia Gašparovičová together with President Ivan Gašparovič participated in a three-day official visit to Montenegro on 12 - 14 September 2011. During the ladies’ program on 13.9.2011 she visited the ancient city of Budva. Accompanied by First Lady Mrs. Montenegro Svetlana Vujanović both ladies visited the Bishop’s Cathedral of St.. John the Baptist, the Church of St. Sava, in which medieval frescoes were discovered after the last earthquake.
During a working lunch First Ladies discussed the current topics – the field of education and health. Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová informed Mrs. Vujanović about the law, which concerns the transformation of hospitals in Slovakia as well as the amendment of the decree about primary schools, which entered into force on 1 September 2011. "School directors will be able to move by themselves the curriculum in all classes. The ministry enters only the scope of the curriculum, which a student of the first and second grade of a elementary school should know. However, some teachers don´t like this system, because according to them it can cause problems especially for children who move or transfer to another school," said the First Lady.
In the afternoon Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová visited the St. Stephen Peninsula. At the turn of the 50´ and 60´ of the 20th century former fishing village was rebuilt into a resort, where currently are luxury hotel apartments.
The local settlement was founded in the 15th century by members of twelve Montenegrin tribe Paštrovič families, who migrated here in case of danger (each family had its house, where they find shelter and where they stored food). The first building was the church of St. Stephen (Sveti Stefan), due to which the settlement was named.
On Wednesday, 14 September 2011 the presidential couple visited Kotor, where they met with Mayor Marija Catovič. On Wednesday evening President Ivan Gašparovič and his wife returned to their homeland. |
