On the occasion of the World Blood Donor Day in Slovakia prepared the National Transfusion Service and the Slovak Red Cross on 13th June 2010 a celebration of this day in Bratislava´s centre Aupark. This year’s motto is "New Blood for the World", which clearly reflects the importance of the precious fluid such as blood. The event visited also the First Lady who is at the same time the honorary president of the Slovak Red Cross. "The World Blood Donor Day is a celebration of donoring and giving respect to those who have decided to donate something of themselves - their blood, which can save another life. Slovakia has a long tradition of blood donation. This year we already celebrate the 50. years anniversary of free blood donation," said Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová at the opening of the World Blood Donor Day in Slovakia.
First Lady of Slovakia welcomed that this day involved a lot of young people. "I am delighted of developed activities for getting more and more young donors and first-time donors." The Slovak Foundation of Silvia Gašparovičová – Education and Health for Everybody also this year helped the National Transfusion Service in Slovakia. The Foundation donated 12 refrigerators, which will be used to store food for blood donors.
