First Lady of Slovakia Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová opened on 2nd April 2008 the Olympics in the Russian Language. In the nationwide round 49 students from primary and secondary schools have tried their language skills.
Although the Russian language got into the background in recent years, Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová is glad that there are also those students who eventually opted for this language that is not the easiest one. "I am glad that you have enough patience and willpower. Russian language is of global importance. For Slovakia, Russia is an important strategic partner and our cultures are close to each other. There are increasingly those who want to know Russian, and indeed they are aware that this language is important." The one who eventually becomes the winner, is not important. Winners are according to Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová all of them.
