The Slovak and Czech presidential couple paid tribute to the 90th round anniversary of the Czechoslovak Republic by laying a wreath to the statue of Tomáš G. Masaryk at Hradčany square in Prague. Subsequently, in Prague’s National Museum was an exhibition with a symbolic name "Republic" opened by the President Ivan Gašparovič and Mrs. Silvia Gašparovičová. The exhibition is devoted to the 90th anniversary of the joint state of Czechs and Slovaks. As President Ivan Gašparovič stated, "90 years is a long human life. For those 90 years the Czechs and Slovaks have undergone a lot of good, but there were also things with which we disagree. The beginning 90 years ago has a great importance for both our peoples: Establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic was the preservation of Slovakian and Czech nationality."

In Prague President Ivan Gašparovič with his spouse also met with compatriots. In the evening along with Václav Klaus and his wife they opened the exhibition entitled ´20th Century in Slovak images and anti-images´, over which the Czech and Slovak president took the patronage. Exhibited works contain references to many major historical events, issues that affect and determine the fate of individuals and the entire alliance – all this not only in Slovak, but also in the Czecho-Slovak historical context.
